Our theme for the wedding

Celebrating the Creation of Life &
The Community of Love

During the wedding we asked our three circles of community/family to covenant love, protection and support for our marriage. Each circle was represented by a planting to symbolise nurture towards growth.

My lil' sis Hannah wrote a wonderful song called 'Days Like These' and played it beautifully!

Vow To each other (and binding of hands)

I Kaylene Michelle Allgood, take you Simon Paul Reeves to be my life-long and faithful companion. Forsaking all others, I promise to encourage that which is Christ-like within you and challenge you to reflect and act upon God’s reign of mercy and justice. Finding you has been my greatest joy and gift from God. I love you and I will keep loving you through all seasons of our lives

And so the binding is made

I take you through the Summers…
When we will share times of deep blue brightness, joy, laughter and warmth
I will always hold your hand during these times of happiness as we walk along the beach on those balmy summers eve’s

And so the binding is made

I take you through the Autumns…
When we will share times of neither hot nor cold, the ordinary, days of non-event
I will always stand by you as we do the dishes in silence after one of those days

And so the binding is made

I take you through the Winters…
When we will share times of bitter cold, weeping sorrow and heart-wrenching pain
I will always hold you close during these times of sadness, snuggling in the flickering shadows of a cold winters fire

And so the binding is made

I take you through the Spring
When we will share times of glorious colour, change and amazing new life
I will always kiss you sweetly during picnics in the park

After the celtic handbinding of our vows to one another we took vows together that we called the steps of life. To do so we borrowed a hindu tradition and walked five steps together. They were walked around a Bible to symbolise following God. Here are our five steps :

Vows – Steps of Life

Love God
Simon and Kaylene do you covenant to love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind, following in the footsteps of the nonviolent Jesus wherever that may lead?

Grow Home
Kaylene and Simon do you covenant to grow home, provide a place of warmth, safety and happiness for your family and all who may enter your home?

Love your Neighbour
Simon and Kaylene do you covenant to love your neighbour as each other? To treat everyone as you would your own brother and sister, striving for a world of justice and peace?

Share Life
Kaylene and Simon do you covenant to share life in community with others. Journeying with them, always forgiving, learning from them and teaching others to do the same?

Walk Lightly
Simon and Kaylene do you covenant to walk lightly across this earth. To care for and participate in the healing of this earth and to live simply, remembering to worship God and not wealth?

An Excerpt from one of our readings called 'The Country of Marriage'

Our bond is no little economy based on the exchangeof my love and work for yours, so much for so muchof an expendable fund. We don't know what its limits are--that puts us in the dark. We are more togetherthan we know, how else could we keep on discoveringwe are more together than we thought? You are the known way leading always to the unknown, and you are the known place to which the unknown is alwaysleading me back. More blessed in you than I know,I possess nothing worthy to give you, nothingnot belittled by my saying that I possess it.Even an hour of love is a moral predicament, a blessingsomeone may be hard up to be worthy of. I can onlyaccept it, as a plant accepts from all the bounty of the lightenough to live, and then accepts the dark, passing unencumbered back to the earth, as Ihave fallen time and again from the great strength
of my desire, helpless, into your arms.
Wendell Berry

The Blessing
You are God’s servants gifted with dreams and visions.
Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.
Love and serve the Lord in the strength of the Spirit.
May the deep peace of Christ be with you,
The strong arms of God sustain you,
And the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen you in every way.Amen
